Clearinghouse

The California State GEAR UP Resources and Materials Clearinghouse is a dynamic, one-stop source for information that is customized to assist middle school educators in preparing their students and families for college.  The Clearinghouse is a comprehensive reference tool that can be used to help educate the middle school community on the availability of college planning information.

The Clearinghouse is available in three distinct formats:
1)  The Website 2) Educators’ Kit and 3) College Corner.

visit the Resources & Materials Clearinghouse websiteThis website provides middle school educators with answers to some of the most frequently asked questions posed by families about the college-going process.  It has listings of quality educational resources, websites reviewed and recommended by middle school educators, and a virtual college tour video.  A curriculum training guide is also included and provides educators with lesson plans that are ready to use in the classroom, in after-school programs, or in parent workshops and conferences.

The website includes:

  • Spanish translation of the Parents Section-Frequently Asked Questions
  • A Glossary of Frequently Used College Related Terms
  • A National Educational Professional Development Events Calendar
  • PowerPoint Presentations of the Frequently Asked Questions in both English (MAC and PC Versions) and in Spanish (PC Only)

EDUCATORS KIT

The Educator’s Kit is another method to get the website features.  In addition to the notebook‘s printed information, a CD-ROM containing the contents of the Clearinghouse is included in the kit.

 
COLLEGE CORNER

The College Corner is a model for schools on how to develop their own on-site college corner.  This interactive, state of the art, multimedia activity center is designed to encourage active college exploration. The activity center also includes a storage area to house any frequently used college awareness publications and materials. It can be used for individual or group activities, demonstrations and instruction.
