Franklin Middle School is GEARING UP California Style

Students at Benjamin Franklin Middle School in Vallejo, CA pose in front of their GEAR UP bulletin board. Teachers at Franklin are preparing to implement GEAR UP services at their school by changing all teacher team names on campus to that of community college and UC colleges. They are also sending oversize thank you letters to their US Senators and Representatives to show their gratitude in supporting America’s future leaders….the students of Franklin Middle School.

Rivera Middle School Celebrates Students Dreams

Rivera Middle School in Merced, CA is celebrating National GEAR UP Day by having a dream wall in their gym. All day on Friday, September 18 students will be talking about their college and career dreams in class and walking down to the gym and placing them on the wall.  We are looking forward to posting photos of the wall when completed! California GEAR UP announces statewide events

  Thursday, September 17 at 1:00pm Everett and Horace Mann Middle Schools in San Francisco will host a collaborative “Unity University” higher education event for students at Everett Middle School. This event will include proclamations from Mayor Gavin Newsom as well as breakout activities for students engaging them in the college going culture of their school.    Superintendent of Public Instruction Jack O’Connell will join California GEAR UP on September 18, 2009 from 8am-10am Valley High School, Elk Grove School District, Sacramento, CA.  GEAR UP schools across California will also host celebrations.   Open media and education professionals invitation.  If …

1.Hold an event celebrating your GEAR UP program! Invite local media, elected officials, school administrators, parents, teachers, and students. 2. Host a Potluck BBQ as a thank you for dedicated GEAR UP volunteers. 3. Create a “See How Much We’ve Grown” Chart indicating the increases in federal funding for GEAR UP over the last 10 years. Turn this into an opportunity to highlight the success of your GEAR UP program. 4.
