ACT:
GEAR UP has provided a unique opportunity for ACT to pilot new strategies in conjunction with the EXPLORE and DISCOVER student support programs. With on-site pre-and post training for school administrators, faculty, and GEAR UP site contacts, personnel are able to model and evaluate these tools and activities for interpretation to parents and students. www.act.org/discover
ADVANCEMENT VIA INDIVIDUAL DETERMINATION (AVID):
With a focus on student achievement, schoolwide improvement and working with the adults that influence middle school students, collaborating at the school site was a natural evolution for AVID and State GEAR UP. Both programs provide staff development and support programs for teachers, counselors and site teams: the adults that influence middle school students. There is exciting potential for continued learning across programs. http://www.avidonline.org

CALIFORNIA EDUCATION ROUND TABLE

INTERSEGMENTAL COORDINATING COMMITTEE
The College: Making It Happen for Middle School Educators series brings to administrators the information, resources and materials needed to become active participants in preparing students for college. Another successful collaboration, the series combines the lessons learned through College: Making It Happen and the California State GEAR UP effort – both initiatives of the California Education Round Table. http://www.certicc.org
CALIFORNIA STUDENT AID COMMISSION (CSAC):
State GEAR UP Educational Trust Awards are administered in collaboration with the California Student Aid Commission through Scholarshare, the State's College Savings Plan. These $2,000 individual trust accounts help those most in need of assistance for college and encourage students to achieve at a high academic level. This project also gives us the opportunity to dialogue with middle school students and families about college preparation and financial aid. Contact number for the Student Aid Commission regarding student awards, (916) 526-7965. http://www.csac.ca.gov

COLLEGE BOARD
In partnership with the College Board, various Pre-AP workshops are offered for teachers at GEAR UP schools. The School Leadership Team selects the topic for the Pre-AP workshop from the College Board menu. GEAR UP schools in the same regional vicinity may collaborate to determine a mutually convenient workshop date and place. The purpose of the Pre-AP sessions is to equip all middle and high school teachers with the strategies and tools they need to engage their students in active, high-level learning, thereby ensuring that every middle and high school student develops the skills, habits of mind, and concepts needed to succeed in college. http://apcentral.collegeboard.com/apc/public/preap/index.html
