SCHOOL-BASED SERVICES FOR CSP SCHOOLS

 

California GEAR UP will provide the following services and resources:

  1. The "Kids on Campus" video in VHS format in English and Spanish, the Pocket Guide to California Colleges and Universities, the Resources and Materials Clearinghouse (RMC) and periodic Newsletters, all of which can be accessed on-line through our website, www.castategearup.org.

  2. The GEAR UP Regional Coordinator (RC) and Facilitator who will work with the assigned school to monitor the progress of the Leadership Team as they implement the sustainability plan.

  3. The GEAR UP Sustainability Workshops attended by the Leadership Team members offered in October 2008 and February 2009.  Each workshop is one day.  Professional development activities are based on the School Self-Assessment Rubric (SSAR) that identifies the six conditions of a college-going culture.

  4. GEAR UP Facilitation for the School Leadership Team and other staff.

  5. GEAR UP sponsored Counseling Institutes offered for counselors and staff who provide academic counseling.  Counseling workshops are offered in March 2009, locations to be determined.

  6. The GEAR UP sponsored Family Initiatives Project (FIP) which offers a five course workshop for parents/families for selected CSP schools.

  7. GEAR UP sponsored College: Making It Happen materials, available in January 2009 for each student enrolled at GEAR UP schools, and College: Making It Happen events, hosted at local colleges.  For more information, see the ICC website www.certicc.org.

  8. GEAR UP Educational Trust Awards with student applications due at the Student Aid Commission Office annually.  The first due date is Friday, March 13, 2009.

  9. College Board Pre-AP workshops on topics such as Interdisciplinary Strategies for English and Social Studies, Vertical Teams in Mathematics or in English Language Arts.   10. Advancement Via Individual Determination (AVID) workshops on topics such as Student Success Path, Write Path English Language Arts, Write Path Mathematics and College Path.
